HIGHLAND KENNEL RETRIEVERS
Testimonials

.

I am writing this testimonial to further validate what all of the families that have adopted a puppy from Highland Kennels have learned: quality starts at Highland Kennels.

I adopted a beautiful, fox red Labrador puppy, now named “Casey” and I cannot express enough how pleased I am with how things have gone since his arrival. Casey has slept through the night ever since I brought him home, and he has never had an accident in the house; he roams freely and plays freely all day and night. He also gets along famously with my other two pets, a miniature schnauzer and a shihtzu-poodle mix, and has learned how to sit, go down stairs, go to his igloo indoor dog house on command, and drops items he is not supposed to play with (socks and shoes, LOL!) on command. All of this in the short 4 weeks I have had him!

I have called Kim and her family to give her constant updates pertaining to Casey, because I knew that it became more and more difficult to part with the puppies as the litter grew smaller and smaller. I intend to take Casey through their training program for hunting in the hopes that Casey also becomes a part of the already impressive champion bloodlines of his pedigree past. A more responsible, reliable, and nurturing group of breeders does not exist than Kim and her family at Highland Kennels. All the puppies were clean, neatly kept within their pens, and treated with nothing but love. It was an easy choice after visiting other breeders in the area whose puppies were left outside in outdoor runs, were dirty, and balked at the prospects of asking them to “clean a puppy” for the purposes of selecting one.

In closing, I highly recommend any person, professional, or family to make their first stop at Highland Kennels when seeking to add a new member to their household. I can guarantee it will be the only stop they will need to make. Feel free to contact me at any time, and I thank Kim and her family once again for providing me with Casey.

Respectfully,

Hi guys
I thought I would let you know how I've been doing since I moved.  I've got these "owners" Ward and Nancy; truth be told I've got them wrapped around my paw and it was done in record time I'm sure.  The ride to Duluth -oh yeah that's where I've moved to, was a breeze.  I slept the whol time, so I was quit surprised when I woke up and was in a different place.  I got a quick walk to go potty and the into my new home.  It was pretty cool, they got a carry crate set up for me to sleep in at nite so I'm "safe" whatever that means.  I havn't really chewed on the furniture yet or chewed on any shoes or wrecked the carpet- oh yeah ward and nancy keep saying how well housebroken I am and are SO grateful. Anyway Nancy put my new blanket in the dryer  before putting me in the crate so my bed was nice and warmand I had the blanket you sent with, so I slept the whole night through.  I was woken up at 5 a.m. to go outside and the in to eat and then off to meet so many new people with ward, it was a fun busy day.  Monday night was alittle differt story though.  Een though I got my warmed up blanket and a big teddy bear to sleep with I was up at 12:30, 2:30, and 4:00.  I don't know why but at 4:00 I got to sleep on nancy's stomach on the couch; something about some good sleep for a little while.
Tuesday all of us were up by 5:30 a.m.I was o.k., but they were moving a little bit slow and I wasn't quit surewhat was meant whennancy siad it's a good thing that puppies are so gosh darn cute, otherwise.... Once again outside to potty inside to play  iwht them and eat and then off with ward for a few hourss and then home to "rest"  Nancy picked me up at 2;30 and we went toher dad's house, Petco what a cool place, for a walk; a really ling walk I was pretty tired, then a car ride to her  inlaws and home for another walk- something wassaid wearing me out so we get a good nights sleep.  Well I'm not sure who wore who out because they both fell asleep on the couch watching t.v. so I fell asleep at their feet.  Nancy woke up at 9:30 and we went outside for one more walk- but I've discoveredif I don't want to go any further I just sit down and wait for them to come get me (pick me up) when I''m on a leash, if I'mnot on my leash I just turn around and rum for home full speed.  They think there are exercising me, well I've got them fooled. nancy warmed up my blanket and off to bed we all went.  Everyone slept the whoel night through, it was great.
Wednesy we were up at 5:30 and the same routine, out to potty, inside to play and eat and then of with ward. we had to get somematerials and tools for ward so we went home andgot the tools and a "gun"  it looked pretty cool he said we may see some birds on go hunting.  We were driving down this dirt road and we got out of the truck and  I thought we were going for another walk; well I heard this loud BANG so I say down.  Ward started walking towards this lump on the ground and told me to fetch it up.  Well I wasn't to sure about this because it didn't look like a tennis ball so I ran over to him and it had FEATHERS.  So I grabbed one and brought it to ward.  He seemed pretty happy but said to fetch it up again, well do you know how may feathers there are on these birds? So I ran over and grabbed the whole thing and brought it to him.  I guess tht was a pretty big deal cuz' he took pictures and everything.  I hope I get to do more of this stuff , they're pretty fu people to keep around, and so easily entertainedand happy to do what I need- I think I'll keep 'em.
Oh yeah they've give me a new name.  You used to call me Lil' bit; well there's sothing about a registered name "whatever that means" so that will be Lil' bit chunk O' chocolate we think,  but my daily name is ROWDY- it works for ward and nancy and I come to it when called- so they're so easy to please.
I just wanted to let you know that everything is going great;  THANKS for all you did for me and I'm sure they will send pictures to you now and then,   Love always  LIL BIT aka "ROWDY"    P.S.  Will you please tell my mom and dad I'm o.k. and Thanks

Kim --  we can not believe what a GREAT puppy he is.  Easy going, mellow, house broken, it's been a wonderful 5 days and I know man more to come.  MANY MANY compliments to you and your familyon all the above mentioned qualities and last but not least his good looks and his big paws that he has to "grow" into.  Today we are going to the vet for his check up and whatever he needs.  sorry about the typos I'm trying to keep my eye on him and write at the same time.  Take care and again THANK YOU for this great dog.  Love nancy and Ward

We adopted a female puppy from Meyer's at the age of 10 weeks.  At that time the puppy was very well mannered and already potty trained.

One of the first comments my wife made is that she was so happy that she did not bark.  You see, we live in an attached Town Home and we were afraid that if she were a barker, it would disturb our neighbors.  It was probably three months after we had her that our neighbor (we have adjoining walls) commented.  "Oh, do you have a puppy?"  My reply was yes, to which she stated "She's so quiet, I never hear her"  As she has gotten older, we have found that she will give a bark if a stranger would come to the door and this is a normal one to two barks.  Once she gets our attention and realizes that it is OK, the tail then starts to wag as she has discovered a new friend.

As we do our daily walks, I receive comments from the neighbors, who also have dogs and even those that do not, on how well mannered she is.  She is very social and enjoys meeting people as well as other pets.  Our neighbor on the one of the other adjoining walls has a small dog and she and Niki our good friends and will play together for long periods of time and even though there is a huge size difference, she never once has done anything to hurt the other dog.  Every time that I take Niki to the Vet or in for Grooming, I always receive a comment about how well behaved she is.  In our area we have several forms of wildlife and she has learned that he is not to bother them.  The ducks and geese give her some area when we walk but, they do not get real frightened and have cause to fly.  Even the squirrels, chipmunks and rabbits are not disturbed by her.

There have been occasions when I have asked Meyer to board my dog for a couple of days, when I am out of town.  At all times, I am confident that she will be well taken care of.  When there, she plays with the other dogs and when she comes home, she is just plain tired for two days.  When I have been at their home, I have never heard any of their dogs bark and they always come to the fence to greet me, of course my dog is also there wanting to be petted.

Based on my experience of their treatment and caring for their animals, I would give them the highest recommendation for obtaining a kennel license.

I am writing this letter in support of the kennel licensing of Kim and John Meyer.  On February 8, 2009 our delightful Chocolate Lab, whom we named Dakota, was born to Chessy and Brock, both chocolate labs owned by Kim and John Meyer.  After responding to a sign advertising chocolate lab puppies, my husband Tom and I visited their home in the hopes of adopting one of the puppies.  Their home and yard was clean and well kept, even though they were in the midst of moving.  I was expressly impressed by the behavior and temperament of their two adult labs, Chessy and Brock.  In my experience, dogs make themselves known by barking when a visitor arrives. This, however, was not the case.  Both Brock and Chessy were well tempered and quiet upon our arrival, and exhibited gentle and obedient traits. That is one of the many reasons why we chose Dakota as our family dog.  Both Brock and Chessy were very well behaved during our visit which lasted approximately two hours.  Both Kim and John seemed to love and take very good care of their dogs and the puppies, ensuring that they had enough food, treats, and space for adequate exercise.  In addition, they gave very good advice on how to care for Dakota - to include timing of proper vaccinations and veterinarian visits, feeding schedules, house breaking, kenneling, hygiene, exercise, and also some basic obedience training.  Kim Meyer kept detailed records of the dogs including their breeding lines and veterinary documentation, which she provided copies of at the time of adoption. She also seemed quite knowledgable in the traits of a good laboradore, commenting on what the vet should be looking at during visits (i.e. hip measurements and signs and symptoms of illness). She also welcomed any future photos and updates on Dakota, and seemed to be sincerely attached to the puppies.
Since adopting Dakota, we have been more than satisfied with our decision.  Dakota is a remarkable dog - a true family dog.  He is very well mannered and hardly ever barks or cries, except for when he really needs your attention.  He is very gentle and loving with our six children.
In conclusion, I feel that Kim and John Meyer are very good and knowledgable breeders and will do the best they can to ensure the safety and health of any dogs they have in their possession.
Please call or contact us with any further questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Ferry

We purchased a Chocolate Labrador puppy from John Bryce in May of 2009.
Upon visiting their home numerous times, we found nice clean well cared for puppies, and adult dogs. This family prides themselves in very well bred dogs. They are careful in the bloodlines they have chosen. The result of such careful breeding has created some of the nicest labradors we have ever seen.  We have recieved many compliments on our dog's beauty and manners. She has been a breeze to train. We will continue to refer them for their well bred dogs. We couldn't be happier with ours.  Please feel free to contact us, Tony and Lisa Potter

I purchased my chocolate labrador from John and Kim Bryce on 5/6/09 and  was completely satisfied.
From beginning to the end of the buying  process Kim was very helpful. Kim and John also showed they had a wonderful pet friendly home with a big backyard to accommodate the animals. I was very comfortable in the environment, and felt confident in my purchase.
To this day my Lab is in good health, has a wonderful temperament, and really is filled with joy and happiness.
Kim also informed me at the time of purchase that in the event my lab didn't have a home, that she was welcome to come back at any time.
All reasons why i would recommend John and Kim for future breeding business.
Thank you

Kim,

We recently purchased “Zidane” from you this past May. He has been a great dog. Very people friendly, a little energetic when meeting people for the first time, but when these people do not get over excited he calms down quickly. He barks only when he is in need of something (to go out to the bathroom, when he is hungry or thirsty). We have worked with him since we bought him on obedience and he is a very fast learner and is very intelligent. So far we have no complaints and his health is very good. I am looking forward to hunting with him this fall/winter and have been training him this summer, he knew what the pheasant scent on a dummy meant from day 1.

Let me know if you need anything else. We will send pics of Gus soon.

Thanks,

Matt

I’m writing this letter on behalf of Highland Kennel Retrievers. When we went looking for a Chocolate Lab we knew we wanted a dog that my husband and son could take hunting , but also a good family pet. We looked at several options, but didn’t find what we were looking for until we walked in to the home of Kim Meyers. Her adult dogs were so well behaved and the puppy’s so well cared for and loved, we felt we couldn’t go wrong and we were right. We ended up with a beautiful Chocolate Lab that is now eight mouths old,  well behaved and loved by all that meet her. I pray that you allow that Meyers family to continue to enjoy their passion of  providing quality animals to family’s like mine.

Thank you,

Nicole Wahl
